Bitcasa is a cloud storage platform that focuses on personal use. While there is a business version coming at a later time, there are currently four options if you want to have a convenient way to store all of your personal files. Once in the cloud, your files can be accessed at anytime, anywhere for your convenience. There is never a limit to the size or type of the file, so you can store any file that is important to you.

Bitcasa advertises that you will never run out of space, which is great but they are definitely not the only ones offering Unlimited storage in 2014. They even offer a free plan with 2 GB, so you can determine how much you need to store and then choose the desired plan. You won’t be limited by bandwidth and you can sync up to five devices to make it easy to access all of your files – this includes music, movies, photos and all of your documents.

There is a significant amount of encryption built in with Bitcasa, so you never have to worry about someone getting into your files, aside from the government! If you’re looking for government-proof backup solutions, check out our top menu above.

The technology used is end to end encryption and since it is your data, only you can see it. While there are some limitations with the program, such as not being able to share files, it is a great cloud storage for personal files – and the plans are affordable. When you can store all of your files in a cloud, you can free up storage on your devices. There’s also worry-free backup because it’s automatic. There’s nothing for you to do except choose the plan that you want.

Pros of BitCasa

  • Compatible with almost ALL mobile apps.
  • File versioning of 180 days (6 months) on paid accounts.
  • Free version allows up to 20GB (more than the competition)
  • Google Chrome plug in.
  • Unlimited storage available.
  • No file size limit.
  • Backed by some big names.

Cons Of BitCasa

  • Expensive.
  • No file sharing between users.

BitCasa Storage Space & Pricing

There are a few different pricing plans for Bitcasa. There is a free one where you can enjoy up to 2 GB of storage space. The others provide you with:

  • Premium: $10/month and enjoy 1 TB
  • Pro: $49/month and enjoy 5 TB
  • Infinite: $99/month and enjoy infinite storage space

The pricing allows you to store between 3 and 5 devices on the plan. If you have Free, then you can enjoy 3 devices, otherwise you have 5 devices. There is also a business plan that is coming soon, which may provide for even more devices. There is no information on the website about whether it will include computers and servers or just computers. There is also no pricing information for it.

Bitcasa Security & Encryption

Bitcasa has security that uses patent-pending technology in order to offer a private, yet accessible cloud storage plan. When files are uploaded, they are encrypted before going to the server. From there, they are tripled and encrypted to be stored safely. Files can then be accessed anywhere and smart caching is used to feel as though they are stored locally.

Bitcasa Bandwidth and Upload/Download Speed

There is no control on bandwidth. This makes it easy to enjoy all of the bandwidth you need without having to spend extra money in order to increase it.

As for the upload/download speed, it is all based upon the speed of your Internet connection. Some people have complained that Bitcasa is a little slow on the upload and this is going to be the case if you have a weak connection that stops and starts. If you have a DSL or T1 connection, you probably won’t notice any issues.

Bitcasa File Versioning

Bitcasa offer 30 days file versioning for free accounts, and 180 days for all paid accounts. While some other online backup services we reviewed offered unlimited file versioning, we honestly think 180 days is more than what most people will ever need.

Bitcasa File Sharing

File sharing is available with the other devices that you have. You can also share files with anyone that you want through a simple invitation where they will be given a link. This is a safer alternative to emailing because you never have to worry about personal data being intercepted. The sharing process is easy and instant, so you don’t have to spend a lot of time on the process. There may be additional options for file sharing when the Business version comes out, but it is not advertised at this point in time.

Bitcasa Syncing

Bitcasa makes it easy to sync to all of your devices. You can choose up to five devices to sync to if you have a paid plan or three if you have the free one. There are apps from the Apple App store, Windows store, Google Play and Firefox marketplace. This ensures that you can access your photos, movies, music, and documents regardless of what device you have. There is also a desktop application as well as a Chrome extension for syncing with the files on your computer.

Bitcasa Maximum File Size Limit

There is no file size limit. You can upload any type of file you want at any size. Since the storage size is plentiful with Bitcasa, you probably don’t have to worry about running out of room in your cloud, regardless of how large the file is that you choose to upload.
